Biography

Savannah Willis is a sculpture artist, mainly focusing in clay, and an educator from Charlotte, North Carolina, currently pursuing her Masters of Fine Arts in Studio Arts at East Carolina University. She earned her Bachelors of Arts in Studio Art focusing in ceramics and Political Science with a concentration in Law and Policy in 2023. While attending Allegheny College, Willis received departmental honors and multiple academic awards. Her ceramic work is an exploration of form and function. Her vessels have been exhibited in regional and academic shows, including Ampersand (2024), the North Carolina Pottery Center’s “A Cuppa” Cup Show (2024), and the Allegheny Biennale (2023). Willis’ work examines the experience of being a woman in a male-dominated society, presenting glimpses of experience through a perspective-based lens that relies on emotional connections to communicate her message. Willis currently teaches Ceramic Appreciation at ECU and has held various instructional and assistant roles supporting the studio art and art history faculty. Active in leadership and arts advocacy, she serves as President of ECU’s Visual Arts Forum and is a member of the Fine Arts Funding Board. Willis’ achievements have been recognized through national scholarships and internal university honors.
